On 14 March 2025, the Green YOUth Changemakers project marked the International Day of Rivers with a large-scale clean-up action on the banks of the Danube in Șimian, Mehedinți County.

Despite challenging weather conditions, with rain starting at the beginning of the activity, 35 motivated young volunteers and students took part with determination and enthusiasm. In just 40 minutes, they collected over 90 bags of waste. Among the discarded items were plastic bottles, metal and glass containers, used tires, and even a dismantled toilet.

The event was organised in partnership with the Municipality of Șimian and the Șimian Secondary School, with the support of Mayor Constantin Trușcă and Deputy Mayor Vasile Gioara, who also assisted with the logistics of removing the collected waste.

The activity underlined the message that clean water means a healthy environment for both people and biodiversity, and that reducing plastic pollution is an essential responsibility for every community.
