Young people from Drobeta present Policy Recommendations to local decision-makers

As part of the Green YOUth Changemakers project, the Romanian project team organised a meeting in Drobeta Turnu Severin with local decision-makers and members of the Municipal Council to present the Policy Recommendations developed by young participants from Romania and Bulgaria.

The session gathered representatives of the local administration, including Mr. Daniel Cîrjan, Vice-Mayor of Drobeta Turnu Severin, Mrs. Maria Toma, Municipal Councillor for Education and Culture, and Mr. Mihai Popescu, Head of the Local Environmental Department, together with teachers, youth workers, and members of the civil society.

The recommendations presented by young people focused on improving recycling systems in schools and public institutions, expanding and maintaining green public spaces, promoting sustainable mobility in the city, and creating local funding opportunities to support youth-led eco-initiatives.

Local representatives welcomed the proposals and engaged in an open dialogue with the youth team. Vice-Mayor Cîrjan underlined the importance of involving young people in environmental decision-making, while Councillor Toma highlighted that several of the recommendations could be integrated into the municipality’s action plan for schools and community projects.

This constructive exchange confirmed the central aim of the project: to empower youth to take part in democratic life, ensure their voices are heard, and build bridges between the younger generation and decision-makers.

The Policy Recommendations will continue to be promoted at national and European level, contributing to stronger recognition of youth participation in sustainability initiatives.
